Need help gaming w/Ubuntu

Hi, I am learning how to use Ubuntu 10.10, and am doing good with most windows programs with Wine/Play in Linux...but i cant seam to get any of my steam games to run...I can get steam to start up and it starts a game, but then the game crashes...which never happened to me in windows... any suggestions are greatly appreciated... thanx. :)
 
lol...i have an extra 9800gt if you could fit it in yer system...lol...selling it pretty cheap.. :) rright now im usin laptop, but only L4D2 an Borderlands only work...blackops is too much of a beast to run on my laptop...lol..but im currently building THIS:
CPU: i5 2500k @ 4.4GHZ
MOBO: Asus.....W/Crossfire
GPU: Radeon HD 6850 1GB
OS: Win. Server 2008 R2.

All for under 600$ !!! :D

That looks like a cool build. I need to optimize my list haha, I have an i7 setup planned for $1500 :D :eek:
As for the 9300 GT, I wish I had the cash, but sorry :) I want to save for a whole new build anyways.
Why are you getting Windows Server 2008 R2? Won't Windows 7 Home Premium work alright?
 
look up any games your trying to install on wineHQ. there's almost always a fix/instructions for any issue you might have. I dont have any problems playing cs/gmod/hl2/etc on steam. It just takes a little bit more work to configure in linux.
 
thanx...but no i dnt have the $$$ for Win. 7 and I got 08 R2 for free through college discount :)
and selling 9800GT for 45$... :)
