Well, I have a choice between a laptop or a desktop. It is not completley necessary for me to have a a laptop, but the ability to go mobile is nice to have and I would take advantage of. What should I go for? I surf the web, type documents, listen to music, store/edit photos, using my iPod, watch DVD's, and watch videos from the internet. I rarely play games. If I do, it is usually low end games like the origianl Roller Coaster Tycoon, board games, ect...

Specs of Desktop

Dell 2400
Pentium 4 2.2 GHz
1 GB DDR Ram
160 GB 7200 RPM HD
Extreme Intergrated Graphics
CD Burner/DVD Drive
Everything else is stock

Specs of Laptop

Sony Vaio FS-500
Intel Pentium M 730 1.6 GHz
512 Mb DDR Ram
60 GB 5400 RPM HD
15.4" WXGA TFT Active Matrix
128 Mb Intel GMA 900 Graphics Processor
DVD Rom Drive

Will the desktop flat out just out perform the laptop or will the laptop have a chance?

Which would you chose if you were in my position?

that desktop doesn't outperform the laptop by all that much, and for what you are planning to do with your computer, basically anything will work, so I'd just go with whichever you like better for whatever price they are. Between the two, assuming they were priced about the same, I might lean towards the laptop cause it looks like it would be more bang for the buck, that's assuming they're priced the same though

The things that your using it for such as watching DVD's, listening to music, and other stuff. I think the portability of a laptop would be better. You could watch DVD's on long plane rides or watever. If your not doin and serious CPU or GPU intensive programs I dont think you need a desktop.

as everybody else says get the laptop it will be much better for portablibly. but i would upgrade the ram to 1 GB if you can afford it for faster speed.

the dell desktop is not much better than the laptop, that's why everyone's suggesting the laptop, right?
if he were to get some good desktop, the story might be different,
but anyways, if you are not planning to play any games on a computer,
go with the laptop, it seems ok...

i have come to give up on my desktop after getting a laptop.

using it, it just allows for more space (did i mention space) than a bulky desktop would. for me, thats great, because as you, i pretty much do the same thing you do with hardly any games being played. so i'd go for the laptop.

the pentium is almost as fast as the pentium 4 in the desktop, if not faster. the ram shouldn't be too much of a problem since your only doing what ur doing. the only thing i see is probably the hard drive. its just a bit small. and the lack of a burner.

Thanks for the responces so far.

I was leaning towards the laptop too. If I need to, I can always add more ram and a CD/DVD Burner too.
