Need help installing new HD please!

I built a computer a few years ago and bought a Western Digital WD2000 SATA hard drive, but I never got it installed. I have a 111 GB HD that I already had installed so I just left it alone. I need the space now, and I need some help installing it. I would like it to be a media drive for pictures, music and non-program files.

When I plug it in, I don't think that the BIOS recognizes it. I probably need to update my BIOS too, but I'm not sure how.

Thanks you!

To update your BIOS you need to go to the manufactures website and download the specific boards update.

As for the HDD do you have the jumpers set to Master or cable select (I think that's one of the settings you can have it on if master)?

You don't need to set any jumpers for an SATA drive. If your board has SATA I would think that the BIOS will recognize it automatically and you wont have to do anything other than partition/format it from windows. If you want to update the BIOS anyway you can.

well thats the problem. I hooked it up to the motherboard (ASUS A8V SE deluxe) with the SATA cable (I tried the PRI SATA and SEC SATA ports) and power source, but the BIOS doesn't recognize it when I start up the computer. It says:

SATA378 TX2plus(tm) BIOS Version 1.00.0.33

Warning - The BIOS does not find proper hardware configuratoin,
Please check your system again!

Can you clarify something? How many hard drives are you running and what types are each of them? (ie., are you trying to run an IDE and SATA hard drive together on the same computer)

The other HDD is a WD1200 enhanced IDE 110GB drive. Also, when I start up and after it gives me that error message, it says "BIOS is not installed" right before it boots up

If its a W/D Sata drive thats Sata 3.0 try putting a jumper on the second set of pins from the left, that sets the drive as a 1.5. I had a few boards that wont see a W/D Sata 3.0 on a Sata 1.5 port without the jumper
