hey everyone right now i have a standard dell dimension 4600i the mobo doenst have a pci express 16x slot which i need to run my geforce 7800 gtx oc (bfg) and i will also need to buy a better psu but dats another story. so i was wonderin if i could get some help finding a mobo, in the future i would also like to have a raid0 card but i hear that that can already b instaled in the mobo, i do have a wireless network card which i will need a pci slot for.

So, as I understand it, you want to replace you current dell mother board? You realize this would of course void any warranty. Anyway, I believe the psu for one is specialy provided to fit only the dell m/b, so that would need replaced. As far as a new m/b, tell us what type of cpu you have, socket, and what you want it for, to do with it?

well i wanan build a new computer but for now i wanan just b able to upgrade to a geforce 7800 and i need pci 16x slot, now i dont have one, i know i will need to get a psu but dats not a big deal, now just changing the mobo will b pretty difficult i think for a noob who doesnt have any expreience with computers. do i need to also buy a new cpu?

dell makes there computers with powersupplies in that cant fit in any other computer so you cant just run off and buy a powersupply from tigerdirect or newegg and expect it to fit it wont work cause dell has to be stupid and change the powersupplies

i have a dell 4700 and i bought a psu from newegg.com and i had no problems at all, couldnt have been an easier installation process.

Older dell's were, they used different pinouts than a normal ATX board. I don't think that they do it anymore, not sure though, crome would know though :D

any model I have seen recently and been able to get a main power pinout for have been different. That said I haven't checked what they use on the ultra expensive models just the mainstream sets.

I assume you mean 7800GTX on the second quote, and that you've not actually bought the videocard yet (and thus avoiding an SLI issue)

Yeah well most half-decent mobos support RAID right out of the box and, PCI slots are essentially plentifiul for non-OEM boards so you'll be fine
