Need Help - Installing Windows XP Pro.

I'm installing Windows XP Pro onto a new computer and I chose not to create a new partition. Should I have created a new partition, or will I be ok with all my storage being on the XP Pro partition?.

Is there anything vital I should know about when installing Windows?.

The computer will be mostly for gaming.

Any help is appreciated.
 
So you mean to say that you only have the C:\ Drive for everything, right? You don't have something like... C:\ for Windows and D:\ for other stuff?

Unless you create multiple partitions, the default Install process is to create/format one partition, your C Drive. The only reasons to have more partitions and keep things separated are for not losing personal files every time you need to reinstall Windows, or as in my case, OCD reasons.

My Windows Drive is set up like so:

Partition 1 (C Drive): Windows XP
Partition 2 (D Drive): Installed Software (everything from Office to Games)
Partition 3 (E Drive): My personal Files

As far as installing Windows - it's very straight forward. During the process, you can create multiple partitions, if you want to try your hand at it.

A hard drive must be partitioned and formatted in order to install ANYTHING on it, no matter what.

You should just partition and format the drive to it's full capacity. When other things come, then come back and ask us for more help.
 
You should reformat the entire drive and delete all partitions and then make a new partition. If there is an old partition still active it may have a virus or infection on it!
