I just got a OS for my computer, and I have a SATA drive, when I try to install the OS it never detects my HDD. But if I put a IDE HDD it works fine. Why will it not detect my SATA, but it will detect my IDE? In the start up it will say that it detects it, but when I try to load the OS on it, its like its never there. Whats going on here?

possibly something to do with sata drivers for windows.

u say its detected in bios., load both drives - ide and sata and boot off ide and see what happens

Did that long time ago. when I did that, the good HDD (IDE-working) gets messed up by the SATA and then I have to reinstall the OS on the IDE again to get it up and running. Its a real pain in the everywhere.

what OS are you instaling? OK, i will asume you are installing WIN XP, in which case, to install directly to the SATA drive, you have to make a 3.5 flopy of the drivers for your SATA controller that is on your MB. then when instaling your OS, it will say press F6 to install 3rd party driver. You press F6 and then when required it will request the drivers. Read carefully, the install for WIN XP can be tricky due to the strange key's presses for diferent operations.
I hope that helps and answers your question.

That could be the problem, but I just tried doing that and my Floppy drive doesnt power up. I tried 2 of them and they don't work. I even tried both wires. What could be the problem now?
