Need help please!

I know there is an easy solution to this... I don't know what it is called that is happening so I cannot search directly for help that way.

I restarted my computer today and the windows are not the 'full size' of the monitor. The windows are smaller then normal by about 3 inches on all sides of the window. Is this called safe mode? How can I get my computer back to normal? I know there is an easy way to remedy this. Do I need to clarify more? Sorry for the vague descriptions...

1. does it say 'safe mode' anywhere on the screen?
2. check your screen resolution (Right click desktop > properties > advanced tab)
3. do you mean that when you maximize the window they are not full? or do you mean there is just plain black 3" border around the whole desktop, including the taskbar. If this is true, just use screen adjust on your monitor itself.
