ok i know i'll sound stupid im not really a techie person and dont even know the specs of my mobo and im not even sure if im posting my query in the right forum topic:o

my problem is everytime i start my PC for after just 3 to 5 minutes it shuts down totally no power in my cpu so i have to unplug it for a minute then plug again..sometimes it just hangs/freezes before it hangs i hear an odd sound inside my cpu so i just know what will happen next everytime i hear that odd sound..like now i had to plug and unplug my pc twice and had to push the restart button thrice before sucessfully starting up my PC..what could be the problem is it with the PSU or with the mobo

help will greatly be appreciated :)

firstly dont confuse cpu, psu, and case
cpu = central processing unit its a small chip inside your case
psu - power supply unit, this is a mid-large box inside you case normally at the top near (you power cord plugs into this)
now where is the noise coming from exactly??

this sounds a lot like a psu failure, best way is to test a new psu in the case, but i doubt you have a spare laying handy

i can distiguish the psu, cpu and case :D

im not really sure where's the odd noise coming from but my guess is it's from the mobo.. i have no spare psu :(

and also everytime i start my PC it says i have to check my file system the type of file system is NTFS volume label is MUSIC directory(one of my hard disk)..one of the disk needs to be check for consistency etc...what does that mean

^^ok call me stupid then :D

i know it's the central processor but most people refer to the whole that's inside the case as cpu well maybe those people not that techie like me:D

Could it be a heat issue? Is your processor(cpu) cooler working?

Might help to list your system specs.

Cheers

went to my technician this morning they said it's a software problem they ask me if they will format it but later on they decided not to format it they uninstalled a software then it was ok they even tried to shut it down then put it on three times and it's not hanging and shutting down like it used to..but when im home and tried to put it on, it shuts down and hangs again :(

here's my system specs:

Pentium4 CPU 2.40GHz
2.39Ghz, 256 MB of RAM
40Gb HDD
NVIdia GeForce2 MX400 64MB
