well firsto of all excuse me for my bad english.
recently i have bought a brand new compac laptop form the hp store that has the following specifications

- Compaq Presario V2000Z Customizable NB
- Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Home Edition with SP2
- AMD Sempron(TM) 3300+ (2.0GHz/128KB L2 Cache)
- FREE Upgrade to 14.0 WXGA BrightView Widescreen!!
- ATI RADEON(R) XPRESS 200M
- 512MB DDR SDRAM (2x256MB)
- 40 GB 4200 RPM Hard Drive
- DVD+/-RW/R & CD-RW Combo w/Double Layer Support
- 54g(TM) 802.11b/g WLAN w/ 125HSM/SpeedBooster(TM)
- 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
- Microsoft(R) Works/Money.

well the problem is that when i open the system information window first apears that the speed of the processor is 789GHz, 384MB Ram.then i close the window and i reopen and then the information changes to 1.59GHZ, 384 MB RAM. then i close the winfdow and reopen again and it appears 1.99GHz, 384MB RAm.

well i dont know why happens that, if some one can explainme why in the window of sistem information didn't say 512MB RAM, and why the speed of the processor change every time i reopen the window.

please help me thanx

thats very strange.

First let me recommend CPU-Z. Its a free cpu and memory reading program that can tell you how much ram you have, what slots they are located in, the speed, and many people here use it and recommend it.

It can be found frm a simple google search I believe, but maybe one of the more knowledgeable people here can give you a link.

The ram might be a problem, if it says 384, definately call where you bought it from and let them know. If you paid for 512 you should get it, laptops running windows xp now should come with a minimum of 512 megs of ram, dont settle for less.

for the processor speed you have cool and quiet technology enabled and thats why it shows that speed when your not doing anything. for the ram i think that the part thats missing is being used for integrated thats why it shows 384. but just to make sure heres cpu-z go to the bottom of the page and click on the version 1.33

Cool n Quiet is enabled on that laptop. It's a feature that drops the multiplier (speed) of the processor down to save battery life. The processor will idle at that speed and once you start utilizing programs, it will jump up to it's rated speed for higher performance.

It's natural for the processor to do that. Intel has the same feature called Speedstep.
