I have a Dell Dimension E520 that has a video card equipped with a DVI output. I am trying to run it to my HDTV through a DVI to HDMI cord. I have the DVI hooked up correctly from the computer going to the HDMI input on the TV. However, I cannot figure out what I need to do on the computer to tell it to switch from the VGA standard monitor to the digital DVI output. I have a standard flat panel monitor ran through the standard VGA port still hook up on my desk and I also have the HDTV hooked up just above my desk mounted on the wall. I would like to be able to switch back and forth between the monitor and the TV if possible. I would like to be able to surf the web on the monitor and watch videos and things on the TV. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

There must be a place where you can play with your video card settings. I am not sure though.

Actually i think I may know a solution. If your regular monitor is VGA and the TV uses the DVI port from the I/O panel, this may be the problem. Some cards are not able to handle dual monitors, you may only be able to have one plugged in at a time to use the other. Though this is annoying, it is the only solution I know of. Good luck.

Np. Its funny that you posted this when you did. My boss just bought a 32" Vizio LCD HDTV to use as his main monitor. This was plugged in via VGA and he also had his DVI 20" monitor plugged in as we were installing it. We could not figure out why the TV would not display anything, even thought it was powered and plugged and all. We did not have success until the DVI screen was unplugged from the computer. Good luck
