Hi all

I am not so familiar with this, so Im gonna need some help

Basically I just bought a laptop. I'd like to connect to the internet from my room. My current internet is only connected to my PC, and I do have a wireless router called D-Link. So right now the situation is:

The internet is connected to the modem, then modem to wireless, then wireless to computer. How do I set this so I can use wireless internet from my room?

Thank you guys, I hope I can get some answers :)

On the computer that already does have internet, go to the command line (just type cmd in the search/run bar) and type in ipconfig. There should be a thing called "gateway address" which is most likely 192.168.1.1 or something similar (could also start with a 10 or 172). You should get into the router's configuration, which should have all the wireless settings you need to get your hands on.

Of course, we can't help with the specifics unless you actually post the model of the router you have (well I can't anyway, I've never dealt with D-Link hardware).

basically if the pc's are not more than two, u culd just simply share the internet connection on that pc with the second one using a cat 5 fast ethernet cable configured on crossover principle.u then go to the existing internet settings propertings n click 'share this connection'.if not then there are varieties of wirless modems of which i am not also farmiliar with d-link.but i had 1 belink wireless router which u culd simply remove the cable connecting the modem to ur computer, then to the router and then configure it to ppoe mode on the router settings while creating ur wireless network with ur preferd ssid.ur router shuld obtain its ip address from the isp and then serve as gateway for ur laptop n others.note the ip by using 'ip config command/all' on the command prompt,by typing 'cmd' on the run field on the start button.all d best.
