need help to uninstall norton 2004

My friends have purchased a desk top Packard Bell that came with Norton 2004 pre installed. They want to install the 2005 edition and understand that you have to delete the old version first!
Unfortunately Norton 04 is not listed under the Add/Remove programs list in xp.
Can anyone pass on the way to get the old Norton program off their machine?
