Hey, I am sharing my internet with another person in the household who's a tenant in my house. He installs this device called a wall plug bridge xe102 next to the router. I know he uses VOIP of some sort. Ever since he installed that device, my internet has been really slow and sometimes i can't connect. He claims that VOIP doesn't use a lot of bandwidth and that device just makes the internet more efficient for videos. Every time i take that device off my internet goes really fast. I'm not very familiar with this VOIP, I'mma need some input. thanks!

no, VOIP does not use a lot of bandwidth, but the device, splitting the connection, etc, can degrade the signal and make you unable to connect, what kind of network/internet do you have

I'm using SBC yahoo dsl. Why does that device degrade my signal and let me connect? Everytime i don't get a connection i just unplug that device and i get connection again.

the VOIP devide the person is using is probably creating some kind of line noise so your modem loses its connection

I'm sorry what how does the line noise make my modem lose connect? I want to explain to him why it makes my internet slower. he is more of a technology enthiusist than me. I think he's trying to pull a fast one on me. thanks for the help i appreciate it.

if he is a tech enthusiast he will know what line noise is and how it can degrade the signal to your modem causing it to lose the connection. when you are having internet problems (i.e. he is using the VOIP), call your ISP. they can check to see the strength of your modem's connection
