Well when I restarted my comp and now my explorer when i log on doesnt show up like no icons or start menu is there any way i can get it back.
 
or try safe mode, after BIOS view press F8 and Safe Mode. If it now working, better to Repair it by restart the pc, boot from cdrom by windows xp setup cd. and follow the instructions.
 
You can change the desktop icons in two ways:

:) Open explorer and click TOOLS - FOLDER-OPTIONS, to change your settings.
:) Open CONTROL-PANEL - DISPLAY DESKTOP-TAB - CUSTOMIZE-DESKTOP.
