I need some help with my computer. Its a decent computer but after I got a Dell 20.1" LCD, I cant play any games.

Computer specs:

AMD 64 3200+ (Newcastle core 2.0ghz 1mb cache)
Asus K8V SE Deluxe mobo
Asus 9800 Pro 256MB
2 Samsung 120gig 7200rpm SATA RAID setup
1GB PC3200 RAM
Dell 20.1" LCD 16ms response time
1600x1200 res.

Before I got the LCD, it worked awesome for playing Battlefield Vietnam. Now, once it starts showing alot of textures (like when in building) it will drop to about 5-10fps which is unplayable. Other times, it peaks at about 20-25fps max.

Is there any way to be able to play these games without this problem? Or do I have to get rid of the LCD to play them? But aren't other people playing these games at a high res?

lower your resolutiong. that resolution is kind of high to run for a new game on that card. try running the same resolution as your previous monitor and see if that fixes your problem.

Iv tried to run a lower res. (1024x768) and it does the same thing. But with a LCD, you have to run the native res. for the best picture.

Would upgrading the video card help this problem? If so, what would be a good one to look at?

yeah lcd generally has lower refresh rates and is good to look for lower respond time but i thin 16ms is okay. at 1600x1200??!!! i think you should invest in either the latest ati or nvidia cards like the 6800GT or you can wait for the new one to come out. the ati x850 pretty much up to your budget.

Maybe it would be cheaper to sell the 20" LCD and buy a 17" CRT

What does everyone else use for gaming? I mean, am I the only person running a huge screen and wanting to play games?

i'm using a 19in lcd to do stuff and play games. this problem i didnt have though.

i even ran games at the highest setting i can i didnt have your problem.

I run it off a projecter :) a prettty crappy onem, but hey i got it for free, i want to get one of those nice ones everntully and hook up my TV and PC to it.

Yes but unfortunately that means you need to decide between (1) running at native resolution and either living with crummy performance (2) running at native resolution with settings toned down or (3) not running at native resolution

Yes. You'll notice the most gains from a 6800class (or X800 class) or better card
