Need help with a computer...

I've got a Dell Inspiron E1405. Something got spilled on it a while ago, I took it aparty after letting it dry, and noticed corrosion on the motherboard. Nothing else was visiblly damaged, so I bought a new motherboard to install.

Before installations, nothing happened when I tried to start the computer. No lights, no sounds; nothing. After installation, the three lights on the panel, plus the light on the pillar near the hinge come on for about 5 seconds, but nothing else.

I guess, my first question would be: Is there a way that I can test the other components? Second, I have a good bit of computer knowledge, but is there a startup sequence...power goes from battery->motherboard->fan->harddrive...? I figure this would be the best way to eliminate good components and isolate bad ones, but I don't know what it is.

If anyone know what I am saying, please post and help me out.

Thanks

That sounds like a VERY tricky job you did. So many things could go wrong when replacing the motherboard in a laptop. You may have shocked it or shorted something out, making the board dead.
