Need help with comp to tv hook up

Hi,

I am hooking up my comp to my tv using an S video cable. I was able to get the image of my desktop onto my tv. But i have to scroll over to get the mouse and anything else onto the tv... so then i tried the option of making my tv the primary monitor, and when i did that the tv screen went blank. So im not sure what to do.
 
TV is a Sharp, flatscreen... not LCD or Plasma though, its a few years old.

Video card on the comp is pretty basic, just a standard one for a one a half year old computer.
 
There is no VGA, only S video... also its hard to read websites, it doesnt come in good. Movies look good though.
