hey guys

I am looking to build a new system from scratch. I am just getting a plain cheap case with 500w ps (dont care how it looks). Now i have already got 2x1gb xms2 668 ddr2 ram, so for ram i think im covered( would like a board to support 4 gbs 4X1gb's). Now I would like to get a e6400 procs but am unsure as to what board to get or where to get it. I have read the e6400 is good for overclocking with a better heat sink so interested in that. For hard drives im going to use my two old ide 40 gigs (but would like to upgrade in a coupel months to sata2). Already got a 256 pciexpress vid card (not a big gamer). Roms are covered. What do you guys thinks??

thanks for the help

i forgot to say that im looking to spend around 100-150 on the board and newegg has the proc for 220. i dont know if the XMS2-5400 corsair is dual channel or not?? but if they are then i would liek to run them at peak performance...while getting another 2 gb's later on.

My room gets very hot in the summer...so if i do overclock or should i even bother...what fan setup should i run??

thanks guys

The PSU that's included with your cheap case is probably pretty crappy. Do you have a link? Which 256MB PCI-E video card do you mean?

here is the link to the case....http://www.canadacomputers.com//index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=008609&cid=CS.664

im not sure about the card..might even be a 128...was given to me so im not complaining. I just want to get the system up and running so if i have to upgrade the psu (to run more cooling equip.) then thats not a problem in a couple months when summer gets here. Only running 1 dvd/cd burner and 2 HD's so nothing crazy for power...or will 500w not be enough?

I know nothing about that brand, but most no-name cases at that price include crappy PSUs that could potentially fail spectacularly.

Either mobo will fit in the case (as will any ATX standard board). The DS3 would be my pick of the two (or the Gigabyte 965P-S3 at a slightly lower price), although keep in mind that all the boards mentioned so far only come with a single IDE controller, so can only run two IDE devices without adding a PCI IDE controller.

so i went with the Gigabyte GA-965G-DS3 which is what i am told is a better board then the asus i posted about above. Why may i ask is the ds3 so good?? looking at the specs is seems to be the same board as the asus.

Ive got a Gigabyte and setting it up was extremely easy, their tech support has been great as well. My board came DOA and they took care of me within 4 days.
