Need help with dell laptop

I have a dell latitude C800 that has major problems with the OS (windows 2000). I want to put xp pro on it. can I just format and install xp and then download the drivers online or is there more to it than that?
 
Find the drivers online first and burn them to a cd or a flash drive. Its kinda hard to download drivers from the internet without drivers for your net card. Also make sure the drivers you get are for xp and not for 2000. Good luck finding the right drivers.
 
ok well ill just put 98 on it then. I just want it to work to keep some files on for tuning my car. I will be doing nothing else with it.

Anybody know of some good places to get drivers for this thing?

I put in the windows 98 cd and it will not boot from the disk drive. even when I choose boot from cd, windows just starts as usual. I do hear the dirve running. it just will not boot from cd

Are you sure you put the right CD in.....???
 
yea, its a windows 98 disc. I put in a windows 2000 pro disc and it worked. I formatted and install that to see how it works. The only thing is my display is half the size of the screen. Its just a small 6x6 or so square in the middle of the screen. Seems to functioning fine though.
 
I put the drivers on a disc and when I try to open them it says D:/ is not accessible, incorrect function

My computer reads the disc fine. Anybody know why this is happening
 
I burnt the drivers to a disc with my PC. It will not read it though. It will play a music cd. But when i put in the driver disc that I burnt it says

D:/ is not accessible, incorrect function
 
No. You need to boot the files I have for download to a FLOPPY and boot with that. You THEN insert your windows 98 CD (after CD-ROM support is enabled) and follow setup.

I can do this and take screenshot pics if you want.
 
I installed 256mb Ram and XP Pro and it seems to be running just fine. It read the driver disc I burnt just fine now also. Drivers are installed and seem to be funtioning fine.
