need help with external drive

Hi i have three external drives and i was wondering is there any way to make them power down when not in use?

Most new externals turn off when the USB is unplugged or when the computer is turned off, or they go idle when not used.

If they're older, than just unplug the power.

I am using a external drive for couple of days....

But every time I add it to my PC it takes more time to recognize...

What should I do....
