Need help with formatting 10+ HD's

I need to fromat 10+ hard drives for a compiney I work for so that we can donate them to a local school or charity. What is the best free program that I can download to format and write 0 to the hard drive. I'm not sure if the hard drives have an OS still installed to them so a program that is bootable would be the best.
