Need help with getting upgrades and stuff

Hi, I feel a bit off topic posting this here, but I don't know where to post this, I need general help.
Right, I don't know much about this kind of stuff, i've been looking up things all day now  (literally) Here's what i'm thinking of getting, what do you think?

Chaintech 7NJL6 Socket A Motherboard and AMD Athlon XP 2900+Processor
($99)

Corsair Dual Channel 1024MB PC3200 DDR 400MHz Memory ( 2 x 512MB )
($99)

TSD-200AS :: Seagate / 200GB / 7200 / 8MB / SATA-150 / OEM / HardDrive
($99)

1. I needed to know if the hard drive and memory are compatible with the mobo.

2. Would there be any difference in performance if I purchased the Corsair 1024MB PC3200 DDR 400MHz Memory instead of the 2 512's (I'm guessing that the dual channel option will be better, but eventually i'm probably going to have 1 gig in each slot so.. it seems like a waste)

3. Will I have to purchase a fan and a heatsink, or will the ones in my current tower be adequate?

4. Apparently there are 3 rebates (I've never heard of these in my life) on the motherboard/processor combo, apparently they end on the fourth of may, does this mean that I have to send them and that they have to reach wherever they are going by that date, or that the store is just stopping the offer by that date?

5. Have I forgotten anything else that I should check, that could mean that i'm gonna waste a lot of money?

Cheers, Blue.

First off, what is your old system and will you be using any components from the old system in the new system?

1)The memory and HD look compatible with everything else.

2) The performance difference between dual-channel memory and single channel memory isn't huge, and buying a dual-cahnnel kit is almost always more expensive than 1 stick. It all depends on what you will be using the computer for. And your motherboard has 3 slots, so with dual channel you could still have 2 gigs.

3) Tell us whats in our old system.

4) Not sure

5) Again, tell us whats in your old system. If you are not using anything from your old system, it looks like you'll need to buy a couple more things.

My current system has a Pentium 3 700MHz procesor.
My graphics card is a nvidia geforce 2 mx400.
I think the sound card is a creative audioPCI
I don't know what y motherboard is.
I'm going to buy a NEC ND3520 to replace my samsung dvd/cd drive.

I'll be using everything that i'mnot replacing.

In this case the dual is cheaper so, i'll get that.
Thinking ahead,I don't upgrade very often (had this for years) and the next time I do, i'll probably be onto ddr2 which means getting another motherboard in the future making whatever memory I buy know redundant anyway.
