need help with mother board.

hey everyone, im new here and i have a question.

i may not be in the right section for this but here we go anyway.

i own a laptop that i do quite a bit of gaming on, and i've never had any problem with the performance up until recently. i dont mind playing on lowest settings as long as the game is fluent. but recently i tried to play a game and the game would not even play. it said the graphics card(chip in my case) is not supported. not a big deal i thought.

well obviously, i cant change a graphics chip from the motherboard, but my question is, can i change out the entire motherboard itself to get a desirable graphics card. i know they make different models of my computer with better graphics cards that are the same dimensions so what problems would i run into doing this?

i have already upgraded ram to the max and i have a 128gb ssd coming for my model.

those seemed like the cheapest and easiest ways to improve it a little bit but i need more lol.

my computer is a hp dv6 1355dx (junk but hey, it was freeeee)
intel core 2 duo t6600 cpu @2200
8gb ram
on windows 7 64 bit premium os

PLEASE help lol. either tell me theres a way so i can start getting it done or tell me its impossible so i can stop obsessing.

You can stop obsessing and because it can't be done. If you want to game, get a desktop that is made for it. You would be better of building your own. If you really want a gaming laptop, then prepare to spend about $1500 or so. A desktop would be cheaper for you.

You have to remember something though. When a laptop is built, it's made for only a certain amount of heat. So they take in what processor it uses and other things and builds it. When you add in a dedicated card, you increase that heat big time. The laptop would overheat constantly. I'm not saying its not possible to switch out motherboards, but its gonna be a lot easier and less stressful to just get a new machine. You won't be able to use the same copy of windows anyway, you'll have to buy a new copy. Unless you had the full version of windows 7 instead of an oem copy when you buy a laptop off the shelf.

i bought the version of windows. and i understand the heat problem. what i dont understand is they install more than adequate graphics cards on laptops that are the exact same dimensions as mine. if there are some that are compatible, how would i go about finding that information. and the better mobos are in the same confines so would it create that much more heat?

my temps right now are at 113 degrees for the cpu amd 86-89 degrees for the hdd and i have had my laptop running for ~10 hours now. when i get the ssd in the heat transfer from the hdd will go down so shouldnt that drop my temps even more? which would mean no problem for higher temps on the gpu?

im really not trying to be difficult to convince or anything i just like to know why when i get answers.

Same dimensions maybe, adequate enough ventilation and cooling, I doubt it. Its much more entailed then you think.

Yeah, I see you have already started a new thread about it. What types of games do you plan on playing? The types of games would tell us what specific processor, amount of ram, what psu and video card you would need.

i play starcraft 2 alot. mmorpg occasionally, like wow, diablo(which is the one i cant play on this laptop). i tried skyrim but its unbearable as well. i pretty much play everything. racing games, 1st person shooter, strat.
but mainly mmorpgs, real time strats.

Well, i'm getting ready for work here shortly and don't have time to put together a list of parts for you but I'm sure someone will be around to help you. Just continue on with your other thread and post what games you play so they can help you.
