Need help with my Command Prompt

when i go to run and type in 'cmd' i get this error message
"C:\Windows\system32\cmd.com
The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.
CS:0549 IP:010c OP:c4 f6 06 a9 02 choose 'Close' to terminate the application"
Then i get the option to close or ignore, but this time if i ignore the command stays up but nothings in it. does anyone know what this message means?

Yea I've seen that before. There are 2 possible solutions to that, try the first possible solution first:

1. Run Ad-Aware - I'm not sure exactly what to look for, but when I had this problem, it found it. Unfortunately I forgot to check the logs to see exactly what the problem was, I just quarantined the files. Do that.

If that doesn't work...

2. Use some tools to scan the machine. Do the scans in safe mode without
networking. Install, update, reboot, go to safe mode without networking,
scan, clean, reboot, do a "light" scan just to see if that's resolved the
problem. If a tool reports finding something that can't be cleaned then post
back with the specifics and we'll see what we can find for you.
