Need Help With New Build!!!!

So I just "finished" building my first computer with the help of a friend. I am having some trouble shooting and I don't know where to go from here. Basically, I installed everything in its proper place and the power source is connected and all the fans and lights and gadgets respond when the power turns on. Buuuut when I plug the monitor into the video card there is no response. I tried putting in the software for both the motherboard and the videocard, but to no avail. I can't get to the bios screen and it's driving me crazy!!! Please help with any info that may be useful to helping me get past this step. I'm stuck just because I have no clue where to go. I tried switching the monitor input from the top of the videocard input to the bottom, nothing. Here are my specs to give you guys a better idea of what I'm working with.

ASUS P6T Deluxe MOBO
Radeon HD 5879 1 GB videocard
i7-920 CPU
6 GB of Dominator Corsair Ram
1 SSD ADATA 64 GB for OS and program files
2 TB of internal drive for media

Sidenote: The monitor we hooked up is directly from my friends computer so we know it works.
 
Which slot have you installed the gpu in? as the pci 2.0 x4 is not the default slot for the gpu, have you tried the blue pcix16 slot?
 
Make sure your RAM is in the correct slots. Check your mobo manual, it will tell you in what order to install them. If this doesnt do it, test your monitor on another PC.
 
"have you tried the blue pcix16 slot?" yeah it is in the blue slot.

I'll try another monitor to see if that is the problem and check the ram order.
