Need help with OS

My friend's computer froze and he hit hard. When he turn it on, the compaq screen appeared but then the screen appeared blank. He already tried tried to use the reboot disk but none work. Did he damage his hard drive? Does he need a new OS? BTW, he has Windows 98. Thanks for your help in advance.

lol whats up with the selling dvds?
I doubt he could have damaged his hard drive unless he hit it really hard... (like with a sledge hammer haha)
how far does it get when it boots up?
