Need help with sound!

Hello all,
Just recently a very annoying problem has come up on my computer and I have no idea how to fix it.
The problem has occured while I have been playing Half Life 2 and The Simpson's Hit and Run, other games seem to run normally.
sometimes maybe after playing for 5-10 mins, the game freezes and I hear this squeaky/beeping noise from my speakers.
I cannot do anything other than reset my computer but the problem does not go.
In my Device Manager, it says I do not have a driver installed for "Other Devices - Multimedia Audio Controller" and after trying to install drivers from my sound card CD and also downloading and installing the latest drivers from the net, it still comes up with this problem.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is your soundcard onboard or PCI? If it's onboard, try installing the latest chipset drivers and such for your mobo. If it is a PCI soundcard like a Creative or something, make sure ANYTHING to do with creative (from your previous install attempts) is off your computer and try again.

I've seen this problem happen once before and it was due to bad memory. Not saying this is the problem, but it could be looked into. So has this problem happen before or just recently? Did you install anything new that may have conflicted with the hardware? Another thing is this the correct audio driver? If it's integrated sound card, some people download the hardware driver from the hardware site, but what they should do is get the driver from the motherboard site (they've got the correct one).

I actually found out why the games kept freezing - CPU overheating.
I recently installed a thermaltake golden orb 2 CPU fan thinking it would be a much better job than the original fan that came with the CPU but obviously it hasnt been doing me much good at all..

sorry I forgot to mention I have a Creative Audigy 2 ZS sound card.
I have tried doing a clean install of drivers/programs from my sound card CD but its still saying I havent got the driver installed.
but I guess it doesnt really matter since I dont think there's anything wrong with my sound now, I just thought it might have been related to the freezing problem.
thanks for your help anyways.
