Need help with updating vista

I am running vista ultimate and the automatic update keeps telling me to update to sp1. It downloads fine then installs and tells me to reset my computer to complete the install. When I do and the screen comes up that it is installing 1 of 3 2 of 3 but then it always fails and reverts back to before the install.

I tried downloading the .exe off of microsoft's website and running it that way but I got the same result. Is there anything that would be blocking the install I even tried disabling my Kaspersky anti-virus to see if that was it but still no clean install.

What do you think?

*forgot to tell you that it's 32-bit if that matters*

Check to make sure the UAC and Windows firewall are disabled. Also look at any other security program if any you have installed.

SP1 can be downloaded separately as a 434mb redistributable at this time while having been a 310mb when first out and requires several shutdowns and startup to see the entire configuration and installation take place. It gets a little time consuming on older systems.

You can try a second download to make it's not from an incomplete copy at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...6d-5ebb-413b-89c9-cb3d06d12674&DisplayLang=en

Glad to see it went on good the second time around. Even with the latest SP3 for XP you have to repeat the process once or twice on some systems to see that go on.

Remember any updates are still software and can simply see a bad install where removing for a second attempt often works right away. SP1 for the new version however is a bit larger and requires several restarts to see everything configured and installed fully.
