But when i install my original xp home edition it works fine..... my question is how can my computer tell when i am using a copy or the original ???????:confused::confused:

is there a way to trick the computer so it does not know i am using a copy???? how can i do that???

help with my windows xp prof.

thank you for your reply.
this is the error i get Please note that this program was working just fine i could up date from microsoft with no problem. i had lots of junk on my computer and i decided to format my drive and start fresh what a misstake.
so i formated my drive and try it to reinstall the same program which i had already used on this computer. it installs ok but when it come to the screen that says finalizing setup i get this message

Error: Installation failed: D:\I 386\ams. Error message the parameter is incorrect.
Fatal Error One fo the componact that Window needs to continue setup could not be installed the parameter is incorrect.
Yes I have the original files so I made another copy same message. Somehow the computer now knows that this cd is not the original I do not know how it does know that!!!!!!!!! Could be sp3????

So i used my original cd which is window xp home edition it works fine how can the computer distingush between the cds original and copy???

in my opinion i think when you install sp3 it writes something into my motherboard and that what makes the computer to distingush between cds
but i need some one that knows how to reset my motheroard to the original defaults i do not mean my bios.
please help me guys if you can:confused::confused::confused:

Take out the CMOS battery out for around 30 sec to 1 min, and then put it back in....

I have had problems like that in the past. I used to do a Fdisk and then format my hard drive. I am not sure if you can still use Fdisk any more. But it would work after i did a Fdisk.
