Need keyboard & mouse suggestions

I'm not much of a gamer, but going back to school after 13 years of not being full-time, considering living in the dorms my first year, even as a transfer student is mandatory, I'll probably be doing some gaming.

Even though I can turn my current mouse on and off at night to conserve battery, I'd really like to get a wired mouse and keyboard, preferably USB 2.0 for both. For mice, I'm not looking for anything fancy like the Saitek Cyborg.

Whatever anyone would recommend for someone getting [very slowly] back into mainly FPS games. I've never had a laser mouse, but if they're much over $70, I'd prefer not to spend that much just for a mouse. And keyboards, I have no clue. It's been many years since I had a wired keyboard and mouse. Thanks.

the g9x is great. i'm purchasing my 3rd one now. however the microsoft sets... i've used and hated. Logitech seems to be the best bang for buck. I've heard mechanical keyboards are better for gaming. I havn't tried but i am purchasing one now lol.

have fun in school!

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I did get the G9x. At first the new shape I had to get used to the feel because of my being used to the normal shaped mice, but I'm already used to it. I got the Logitech G510 for a keyboard. It's a pretty hardcore gaming keyboard, more than I really need I realized a few days after using it, but I like it and the on-screen LED display in your own choice of any color is cool (same color that lights up the keys). The only thing I had to get used and am still working on getting used to is the Ctrl key not being the very last key at the very left-end of the keyboard. Instead, there's a macro key, G16 to be exact. So, simply, all I did was assign the Ctrl keystroke to that key as well, when I take my hands off the keyboard while typing to forgettingly move my left hand over to the once-there Ctrl key. So I have 3 Ctrl keys on my keyboard now (technically).:D

Oh, and thanks for the "have fun in school." It will definitely be fun. I'll be attending the University of Advancing Technology in Tempe, Arizona, majoring in Network Security. I haven't been a full-time student since the Fall of 1999, so this will be a bit of a shock for me. But, considering everything about this school is fundamentally based on computer technology and nothing else, I should have a lot in common with everyone I meet. And it's a small school: about 5-600 undergrads living on and off campus, so that will be a big change from my last university of roughly 40,000 students. Thanks again.

I will prefer Microsoft company keyboard and mouse.
