need more ram, does it have to match?

I have 3gb and one empty slot that id like to use just for the fun of it...do I have to get a certain kind or can I just get any stick and instal it?

All I know is that my current ram is from acer....

You need to know what kind of RAM it is and how much the board will support. Is it DDR? or DDR2? That should match.

Try looking at the ram chip its self, or download cpu-z - I think this program shows what your ram type is. If it doesn't google for another similar program to this
