Need new basic laptop

I need to replace my 9-year old laptop.
- Price up to £350 max £389.

- Windows (not Apple) for word processing, spread sheet, and of course internet (no games, and no particular high level graphic design/photos).

- 8GB

- Intel® Core™ i5 (I read that AMD Ryzen is better for games but I don't need that)

- Will mainly use it at home, often linked to an old PC monitor, so a middle sized screen would be ok.

- No silver keyboard as I find it very unpractical.

- I was told that Microsoft Office has to be bought separately.

- Is Windows always included? (It says so for an Argos item).

- Would like to buy it from a seller where I can go in person in case of problems (PC World rather than Amazon).

Pls help me to choose what requirements are relevant and ideally where to find a matching laptop.

Thank you so much!

When buying a computer from a brick-and-mortar store, it will most likely be Windows as the default OS. If you go to the manufacturer directly, you can get Linux instead, or no OS to save money, but then you will have to buy a Windows license.

I am not sure what you mean by 'no silver keyboard'

Unless you have a subscription for the Excel app you have in the other post, then you would need to buy a license of Office, but typically Microsoft will have a free basic version of Word, Excel, etc. You may want to look into free alternatives like OpenOffice and LibreOffice. They support Microsoft's formats.

IMO avoid ASUS as their warranty center is not good. Also do not get any machine that has a 128GB or even mentions eMMC as 1) 128GB is not enough in this day and age, and 2) eMMC are not upgradable and will require additional purchase to increase storage.
