Need new MB for HP Pavilion

Best Buy will not honor their PSP warrenty that I paid over $300 for and they said I need a new mother board for my HP Pavilion ZD7000. The problem is that the LCD screen is blank but the laptop boots up and works fine when connected to an external monitor. They said some liquid was spilt on it and leaked down to the MB but when the screen went out I had not spilled anything on it. It just went blank and that was it. Can liquid permantly damage the MB even though it will eventually evaporate? If I spilled anything (I don't remember doing it) it was a long time ago before the problem started. I would think that any liquid damage would cause problems emediately.

Yes, liquid can do a lot of damage. It also depends if it was on or off or even plugged in. I've seen some instances if it's just a little bit of water was spilled while it was off, can dry up after a day and still boot up with no current problems. If it was juice or soda- yes, it can be traced. It can leave a sticky residue in all sorts of locations.

Another thing, I'm not too fond of the "geek squad" raping people with wrong diagnoses. Not saying that they're always wrong, but with this problem, it may not be the integrated video card. Since you can still use an external monitor and everything boots up fine, it may just be a bad screen and NOT a bad motherboard.
