I am looking to get a new processor because my is old and it recently stopped working. My problem is that I have the 775 socket and all I could find to upgrade to is a Intel Core 2 of some sort. Now I was looking to upgrade to an Intel i5 or i7 but all of the ones that I could find were only for 1155 sockets. Is the Intel Core 2 processor good enough to handle gaming such as Diablo III and do they make i5 or i7's to fit a 775 socket? I am hoping that I will be able to just get a new processor and not need a new mother board or computer. Any help you guys can give I greatly appreciate. I tried searching but did not come up with anything.

What motherboard do you have? You could always upgrade to a Core2Quad.
honestly man I have no clue, is there a way to find out? Does that have a big play in what processor I can get?

Well, the motherboard is what has the socket for the processor. So it IS the play for what cpu you get. Computer model will tell us a lot, plus budget?

yeh run cpu z and itl tell you everything you need to know, loads of people still use socket 775 as the core2quads are really decent processord and can be picked up for peanuts nowadays
i just find that stock intel coolers are ****ing poor s if you do got for a core2quad but a decent cooler just for peace of mind
