Need printer? but problem?

Is it just me or are printers different depending on what computer you use it for?
For an example, I have an hp printer and I used it for my desktop but for some reason I can't hook it up to my laptop as the cords too big for my laptop.

Am I doing something wrong or are there printers specifically for laptops?

And if so, how do I know which 1 to buy?

Your info is a little sketchy but most modern printers are USB connectivity and I assume you have an older printer with the parallel interface. You can buy an adaptor like this
