I have a dell dimension 8400 that i have been trying to throw more RAM into. I bought a gig of Crucial pc 3200 (400 mhz) but it isn't going into the darn slots. Is this another ploy by Dell to get more money out of me by buying their RAM?

Did you put in the right way :) According to the specs I found online it says PC2-3200 if you bought just standard PC3200 it wont work

Are you sure that the current memory in your pc is DDR , I just fixed a Dell the other day and it had PC800 ram in it which is totally different. Download a program called PC Wizard 2007 and it will tell you everything about your system form MOBO to cpu ,memory etc. You can download it at www.majorgeeks.com .

Here is the ram specs
