Need Some Advice For Noob

Sorry I'm new to Computers. Before it was just if the computer sounded like it had some good stuff and memory in it, it was good, but i want to actually start learning about what guts or stuff i should looking for in a computer. Or how to make one. I have a few friends that have made great computers off a like newegg.

But for right now i m looking to buy or build tower for around 500 dollars
I know its not much but i m not really in to computer gaming it would just be to hook up to my Tv in my room and be able to surf the web with decent speed.

That's really not a lot for a "decent" tower system however you should be able to find a 160GB SATA HDD,AsRock Mobo(onboard graphics),1GB(2 x 512MB)DDRII RAM,dual core AMD cpu,and a midi tower case(with PSU 450W) for around that price. The most expensive part will be the OS probably.
 
Honestly, buy a used computer (from Ebay or Craigslist) and just upgrade it. That might be the best thing for your price range.

I prefer Craigslist because I could look and use the computer before I buy it, that way nothing is wrong with it.
