need some clarification on Linux

so i want to try out Linux but when i try to download it, it gives me a page with a whole crap load of versions of Linux. but i just want the regular Linux version not puppy linux, armix, linuz light, just regular Linux i don't trust the others......so any help?

well... there are tons of variations of linux... I would suggest Mandrake or Red Hat if you are wanting a GUI. Just look for the newest version of those.

Hope that helps!

Nope...You can't just tell someone to get a particular distro - just like that. Go to this site and adjust the settings in the Distrobutions section. You should be able to find the right distro. Personally I'd go for SuSe and I did.

Nobody did tell him to get a particular one. LlamaTronics suggested 2 of them, and he couldnt get one of them to download. So i gave him a link ot the download

What are you talking about? The guy had already chosen Redhat which was apparent by the link. elmarcorulz simply pointed him into another possible direction to download that particular distribution.

I would also suggest Suse Linux. Or Mandriva Linux as a second choice.

well now that i looked into it, i don't want to burn 5 Cd's to install one OS, so can anyone suggest a OS that will fit on one CD and is.....good! lol

You can download in many cases DVD versions. Last I downloaded was Suse 9.2 and it fit on a single DVD.
