i have a dell xps400 had it for a few years and want to speed it up a bit, the only specs i know so far is when i rightclick on my computer and it says

intel (R)
Pentium (r) 4 cpu 3.20ghz
3.19ghz and 512 ram.. im ordering another 1-2 gb of ram but what els can i do to really speed it up? can i overclock the cpu? i read some about that i dont mind looking it up if its possible

uhm dells are usually locked so i dont think you can overclock it plus you'd want to get an after market heatsink. you should run disk cleanup and defrag if you havent and someone else could probably add more

well first of all just to make sure. have you checked that the ram your getting for your computer is compatible with your computer.

you could defrag your hardrive. that always helps improve performance.

yes i did defrag and cleanup already also virusscanned and removed 1 of the users, i have not yet orderd the memory just looking if i can do anything els.. also cheapest place to get memory?

your cpu is pretty much up there already on the pentium range, so i would just suggest to max out your ram. i'm in the same boat as you are now. i just ordered a ram upgrade i went from 1 gb to 3gb now. i'm still stuck on my old system i don't know why, it suits my needs still.

A reformat can help a little if you feel like backing up files and spending sometime on it. But after that and more RAM there is little you can do short of buying a new system.
