right now as you can see i have a Gigabyte X800 XL, for those of you who dont know it is the passively cooled version of that card, and gets hot as all hell quite frankly, temps have been known to exceed 100C under load and it flat shuts down when playing NFSU2, i have to underclock it.

so im wanting to get an Arctic Cooling ATI Silencer 5 for it, and im glad i read the reviews because ive been presented with a problem...this card has no power connector for a fan on it..is there any sort of adapter i can get? are video card fans a 3-pin design like case fans? I honestly cant remember what a good old fashioned video card fan pin setup looks like, so i dont know what sort of adapter i need. I have plenty of 4-pin connectors available.

Thanks in advance.

Adapters

Not all video card power adapters are the same. Some Video Cards have get thier power from the motherboard as you are saying there isn't a power connecter for the fan More likely if the fan is running, it's getting power from the mother board. If the fan is not running look for plugs that don't have connectors in them. There are anywhere from one to two power connectors.

P.S. Gigabyte X800 XL Doesn't have a fans, it uses heat pipe technology.

i see ive failed to get my point across..right now my card DOES NOT have a fan, it is passively cooled, it has a big ol heatpipe cooler on it that doesnt do all that great of a job, since it came like that originally there is NO connector on the card for a fan of any kind. im wanting to get a cooler for it that uses a fan and im wondering how i will power THAT fan...make sense now?

you have to see if ur motherboard has fan connectors on it, just because it uses heatpipe technology doesnt mean that it doesnt have any connectors on it, for example how would u power the fans on your case. or maybe you need to buy a fan controller for your system which would support multiple fans and perhaps cool your entire system off very nicely.

well yeah my mobo has connectors for fans, i think 2 possibly 3, and right now theyre being used to run some case fans, the video card itself is what doesnt have a connector on it, as most do for whatever fan is on them to begin with, either that or they have a place for a plug, i have neither, so i was just wondering waht sort of setup i might need to get.

do most aftermarket GPU coolers use a 3 pin connector? the same 3-pin connector a case fan would use?
