Hi, I just upgraded my system from an asus p4p 800 mobo to an asus a8v-x mobo. I was using the intel raid with 2 sata harddrives on the old system. I was told that switching to the via raid system with the same 2 hard drives should cause me no problems and there woould be no loss of data. Well I reinstalled windows on the c drive and I no longer have the 7 other partitions viewable in windows. So I am wondering do I have to go to the old setup and backup everything I need from the old setup to a different hard drive and then make a new array from the bios screen? Or is all that info toast now?

Whoever told you that was wrong.
Switching to an identical motherboard or a motherboard with the same RAID controller would have been the only way to save all your data.
Unfortunately you can't go back to the old setup because the new via controller erased all the data and overwrote it with the new install of Windows.
You can try some of the available data recovery programs. They may find some of the old data but I'm sure they won't find all of it.
Sorry for the bad news.
