Need some help with hard drive partition...

Hello, how's it going? I have a Dell XPS 420 about 3 years old. It had Vista on it but I finally got Windows 7 and installed it a couple days ago. Everything is working fine and now I want to make some more room on my hard drive by deleting the Recovery partition Dell set up originally. How do I do that, I guess is my question. Do I just right click and hit Format? Do I set it at Fat or NTSB? What is the Allocation unit size? Any help is very much appreciated. Thank you.

It's basically wasted space. You should have deleted that partition before you installed windows 7. Its what maybe 10gb? You would have to delete the partition and then possibly you can merbe it with one of the others, but I doubt it.

Johnb35 is right.
You should have deleted all the partitions before installing Windows 7.

There are ways to delete that DELL data and add that as a free space to your partition(s).You can do that in Disk Management easily if you are planning to add that as a free space to your SECOND partition which does not have Windows 7 OS on it.
If you have ONLY Windows 7 OS partition there IS a way to add that space to it too,but it's a little bit more complicated.

So before we proceed, tell me...do you have ONLY WINDOWS 7 partition or more of them?

By the way if you JUST want to delete all that DELL data so that you can use that partition as extra free space without messing with the partitions, you can do that too in Disk Management.Just delete that partition and after that delete the free space (if any) until you do not get UNALLOCATED SPACE.After that just create a new partition on that UNALLOCATED SPACE and format it in let's say NTFS.

Cheers!

Hello S.T.A.R.S, and thank you for replying. This was my first time upgrading an operating system and I assumed it was going to wipe my whole hard drive clean. That's what I get for assuming, I guess. Anyway, I would like to keep that partition as a storage area, if that's possible, for things I'd like to keep private. I have no experience in deleting or formatting a partition, but the only thing on the hard drive is the operation system - "C" and the recovery partition -"D" as they're labeled. I found the Disk Management program but I'm not sure what to do. If it's not too much trouble could you walk me through step by step so in the end I'll have the operating system and a storage partition in place of the Vista recovery partition? Thanks in advance, Chris

Of course it's not a problem to help lol. That is why I registered on this forum in the first place lol.
(Actually I registered here because one rainy night I was bored at home and angry on someone who pissed me off on the job.And as I was expressing my anger on the keyboard I found this accidentally lol...........Stupid bitch...I am still looking for her by the way...ARGH!!!......but I'll talk about that some other time hahaha)!

Anyway before we proceed, please go into DISK MANAGEMENT and take a screenshot of it (make sure the window is maximized) then put it in your reply so I can see how everything looks like just in case we do not format something wrong.

Cheers!
