need some help

Well i started having issues with my computer back in November of last year ( 2009 ) so i tried to use the recovery disk that came with my computer and it started doing some weird stuff it wasn't reinstalling everything back to the way it was when i got the computer, so i tried to use the windows xp cd that i bought to reinstall windows xp and i ended up making a second copy of that which ended up on the D drive.. So i tried to use it but i had all kinds of erros not all the programs and files was installed so i tried to reformat my C drive and it messed up it got to the point where some of the dll files was missing and i couldnt even get to the desk top.. So i called out a computer tech and he told me i needed to reinstall my os because it was telling me one of the dll files was missing to start windows.. so he took it back to his computer place and fixed it so i thought... I got my computer back last thursday the 31 of decmeber 2009 and i started up my computer and up pops the option to which windows of xp i wanted to use so i choosed the first one and it took me right into my desk top and everything was fine well i got to looking and noticed it's the d drive so another words he installed everything to the d drive. the c drive is there but it tells me i have to install windows xp. So what i am wondering is if it's okay that i am having to use the D drive or did he make a big mistake lol. I hope someone can help me because i get sick of everytime i start my computer i have to choose which xp i want to use and can i delete the c drive and if so how????

unless you asked him to leave your data alone, he should have installed the os on the C: drive. he probably did the same thing you did.

to set the d partition as default go to your boot drive (D) and make a backup copy of the boot.ini file,

you may have to select Show hidden files somewhere in Tools> Folder Options from windows explorer

open/edit the boot.ini file and delete the installation of windows xp that you don't need, the partitions should be numbered.

it might be easier to reinstall correctly since you will probably run into problems when installing software; they default to the C:\ drive.

okay well i am totally confused on what you are talking about lol. My friend tried to go in and remove something he went to my computer and clicked on properties then on advanced and then on restart and recovery and clicked on edit and removed what he thought was the path to the extra copy of windows xp i had on the c drive but it did nothing it now when i start my computer it asks which one i want windows xp or windows defult windows defult is highlighted so i pick that one and it takes me into my desk top.. my question is how do i remove the windows xp that is there when i boot up my computer.. it gives me the option of using f8 and i click on that and it lists reboot return to os or start windows normal and i click that but it does nothing it still comes up with that black screen and white letters asking me which one i want to start..

this is what it looks like when i go to my computer advanced tap and to start and recovery then to edit it pops up with notepad

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
