Need Suggestion Buying a New Wireless Router

Hello Everyone,

My current Netgear wireless router is giving me some issues. The Wireless network keep going out every 2-3 days and require me to reset the router. I had my current router for about 3 years already. The router I have is WGR614v7. I am looking into the following router and prefer Netgear:

Do anyone have any feedback for this router? If you don't prefer this one please let me know which one do you guys prefer. Also I need a router that has the option to change the MAC address. Thank you.

What are your everyday needs for your network?

I'm sure that router will work just fine for you. Most routers out now will last at least 3 years, and are basically built with the same parts, on an assembly line. Beware of the fanboys.

I have 4 computers on the network, 1 laptop on wireless and a ipod touch on the network. Normally for gaming/internet. sometimes streaming.

I read reviews and some people had issue and some didn't. I just wanted to get some feedback from others and see what do they think of this one.

That looks like a great router for the price. The dual band, security, and Push n' connect all seem to be what you need.

I've come to find that reviews are crap. In this wonderful day and age, when things are mass produced on assembly lines for our convenience, sometimes defects will happen. And when things go wrong, I find that more people are more inclined to leave a comment on the product page, thus ruining that products reputation for no reason.

Anways lol, go for it.

Some Netgear routers had heat issues, usually solvable by hacking a fan into the case.

I have the .11g version of that router and no real problems (outside the occasional hiccup).

There's hot and there's too hot to actually perform.

That's like saying "I've never owned a processor that didn't get hot." Of course they get hot; hell, they need a minimum amount of heat to work well, but it doesn't mean you shouldn't have some means of managing the heat.

I wasn't disputing that they don't get hot hot. What I meant was, you hacked a fan into a router?

What's wrong with that? Never had problems with the router locking up on me after that...

Of course, that's two routers ago. The last one I just mounted on my firewall naked. The current one doesn't seem to have an overheating issue.

I am also considering buying this router. One factor I am not famililar with is the lack of gigabit ethernet. What more do I get if I move up to one with that. Would I get any more speed, like smoother video streaming, wired and/or wireless? My DSL download speed is 3Mbps either wired or wireless now. Most youtube videos are stuttering. Any advice anyone?
