Need to build a server computer

Hey, I'm in a bit of a dilemma and I need help. I need to host 2 or 3 Minecraft servers for a fellow gamer and I. However, I am not sure how much memory or what general kind of processor to get. Obviously, I won't need a lot of graphics power or hard drive space for a basic server, but I'm still stuck. It will most likely be running Windows 7 x64, and the max player count will not be more than 20 on each server. Any suggestions?

P.S. I am not building the computer from scratch, so I don't need any specifics. Just a general idea on what specs would be ideal is fine. :)
 
Are you hosting these from home? If so, how many people do you plan on having on the minecraft servers total at one time? What is the upload speed of your network?

As far as specs, any basic processor will do, the main thing you need is a decent amount of ram, depending on how many players you are going to have connected.

There will probably be no more than 5 or 10 of us online at once; the limit of 20 is just in case They're all private servers, so I don't need a very fast network. The download speed on my home network is 24 Mbps and the upload speed is 5.

That makes no sense. It doesn't matter if it's private or not, the number of people concurrently on the server at once does. If it's 5-10 total, that should be doable with that upload speed but barely, especially depending on what type of mods (if any) you use.
Ram wise around 4-6 GB's would be plenty (the more the better), assuming this is a dedicated windows box. You could free up a lot more ram if you ran this as a headless linux server, but that's your choice.
 
6GB should be fine. Would get 8 if you can afford it (RAM is cheap).

Another cheap way to improve server performance is to put a second hard drive in. Then run C: off one and the minecraft data off the other. (Physical drive access is usually a huge bottleneck).

Processor I would try and get Core 2 Duo or later.

yes sometimes it is but a decent processor is still needed especialy if the 3 servers are running at the same time

it also depends on what you plan to do on the server

sometimes 6gb can be too much and sometimes not enough (me like blowing load o tnt on mah server :) )
