Okay guys heres my problem. Well i have a Seagate 20GB hard drive a friend asked me to erase clean all the partions. What should i do to go about making this hard drive "like new" again . He has a new copy of XP home he going to install. He just dosent know how to go about erasing it. So i did it before but yes its been a while..im just double checking. I was going to either hook it up on my pc as a master or slave..slave most likely so once the pc see's itin my computer i go go about eraseing the partions.. Can some one clarifly how i should go about this correctly..Thanks in advance , steve

Erm. If you're going to install a fresh copy of Windows XP Home on it, why not just wipe it within the machine it's originally from and he intends to use it within for the Windows XP Home install? If your plan is to install XP Home on it from within your machine, then move it over to his, I wouldn't advise it. But if, for some strange reason, you did want to wipe it clean within your machine before putting it in his for the install, simply connect it as your primary slave like you said, and format it via going to:

Control Panel >> Administrative Tools >> Computer Management >> Disk Management...

Although, I'm not entirely sure if you can remove various partitions and bind them into one via that, as I've always created my partitions using the Windows install CD before installing the OS.

When you reinstall Windows, you can delete all partions, and you have no choice but to reformat the drive (reformat deletes all files).

you could just go into BIOS and select cd drive as primary boot and install windows that way, this would format your drive install windows and i beleve you can delete partitions too...

dont use the quick format tough.. because then it only erases the data table,.. ( the index) but the files are still on the disk
