Need to extract a few clips from DVD's

Hey all,
so I have a project for one of my classes, where we show a clip from a video and explain how it's related to what we're talking about.

I would like to use multiple clips from multiple shows/movies, and was wondering how I can take a few clips from some of these DVDs, save them, and then just put them on a thumb drive or something.

first, you gota rip the dvd. then use a video editing software to cut out the part that you want.
