Need to know which to buy

My dad is looking at buying a laptop to replace his p3 800mhz desktop because it's out of date with the latest programs and such.

-He doesn't want to spend more than $2000canadian taxed and shipped.

-He wants to be able to run windows vista (64 bit?)

-He wants to be able to run recent programs (need 2gb ram or is 1gb ok?, wants a dual core processor)

-We don't know if the x1400 will last for years to come.

-Is the x1600 worth an extra $110canadian over the x1400?

-Is this a good option? http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=18352&vpn=LX.ATD05.014&manufacture=Acer

Any suggestions? Thanks a lot!

What you have found is pretty nice. I think that would be a good option.

We've narrowed it down to probably two configurations.

VS

Basically, the difference seems to be that the first one has 1gb ram, 100gb hard drive and the x1600, while the second one has 2gb ram, 120gb hard drive, and the x1400.

I understand the x1600 to be quite a bit better, but is it enough to sacrifice the ram and hard drive?

Also, is the screen exceptional? (wxga?)

1. You can always upgrade the RAM in the future

2. The 20GB hard drive difference isnt that big of the deal

3. Since you cant upgrade the GPU in a laptop, I would go with the x1600 then upgrade the RAM later on
