So my cable/internet comes into the corner of my house (office) where it plugs into my modem and from there to a wireless modem (six inches apart, via cat 5 patch cable). My desktop is plugged directly into the wireless router. This setup works, but because the wireless router is in the corner of the house, the opposite corner of the house has bad or no reception. I ran another cat 5 from my router out to the living room (center of house) for Netflix, which also works fine.
My Question:
Can I replace my router with a switch (the switch would then be between the modem and router, and my desktop would then be plugged into the switch), then move the wireless router out to the living room and plug it into the existing cat 5? I've tried, but no luck. My desktop works fine with this new setup, but the wireless computers and Netflix don't work. All thoughts appreciated. tia.
