Need to transfer emails

I need to transfer emails and contacts from XP operating system with Outlook 2007 to Windows 7 using windows live email. After googling and researching the topic I am totally confused.

Anyone have suggestions as to the best way to transfer them?

I used windows easy transfer to send all files to an external hard drive. Is it possible to import emails and contacts with windows easy transfer?

I'd really appreciate any help.

That's rather simple. You just need the Outlook PST file for your account (look in the account settings for the location of it - probably something like C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook) (and export the address book if you want that as well) then import it with Windows Live Mail.

Yes I agree, easy, save the pst files.

Back them up by going to FILE, EXPORT - rename the file as adam.pst. Import it once you have Outlook back up.
